AN EVALUATION OF THE SECOND YEAR OF THE MINNESOTA CRIME WATCH (MCW) PROGRAM WHICH FOCUSES ON REDUCTION OF RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES BY INCREASING CITIZEN CONCERN ABOUT CRIME AND PROMOTING CITIZEN CRIME PREVENTION.
Abstract
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE MCW ARE TO AID MINNESOTA LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IN EDUCATING CITIZENS ON CRIME PREVENTION TO INCREASE CITIZEN'S AWARENESS OF THE CRIME PROBLEM, TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN CITIZENS, TO INVOLVE LOCAL GROUPS IN CRIME PREVENTION, AND TO PROMOTE LEGISLATION AND IMPROVED PLANNING FOR SECURITY TO IMPROVE CRIME SECURITY. THIS EVALUATION FOCUSES ON FIVE ASPECTS OF THE MCW PROGRAM: THE DIRECT PUBLIC INFORMATION CAMPAIGN, THE ENLISTMENT OF LOCAL AGENCIES IN MCW, THE CRIME PREVENTION TRAINING OF MCW, THE EFFORTS OF MCW TO REORIENT LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES TO CRIME PREVENTION AND EFFORTS TO INCREASE RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL SECURITY. THE EVALUATION SHOWED THAT FOR THE MOST PART, MCW WAS SUCCESSFUL IN EACH OF THE MCW PROGRAM AREAS....DMC
