Abstract
THE MINNESOTA INSTITUTION-COMMUNITY CONTINUUM (ICC) PROGRAM UTILIZES A GUIDED GROUP INTERACTION OF POSITIVE PEER CULTURE TREAMENT TECHNIQUE. THE INSTITUTIONAL PHASE OF THE PROGRAM (PHASE I) IS A SHORT TERM RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT SITUATION WHILE THE COMMUNITY PHASE (PHASE II) CONSISTS OF GROUP MEETINGS IN THE COMMUNITY. IN 1971, A TOTAL OF 152 BOYS WERE SERVED BY THE ICC. PHASE I SERVED 106 INITIAL ADMISSIONS AND ONE BOY RETURNED TO THE PROGRAM, WHILE PHASE II SERVED 123 INITIAL ADMISSIONS AND THREE BOYS RETURNED TO THE PROGRAM. OF THE 58 BOYS TERMINATED FROM THE PROGRAM, 37.9 PERCENT COMPLETED THE PROGRAM SUCCESSFULLY AND 62.0 PERCENT COMPLETED THE PROGRAM UNSATISFACTORILY. THIS SUCCESS RATE WAS FOUND TO BE MUCH LOWER THAN IN PREVIOUS YEARS. POPULATION MOVEMENT, INCLUDING NUMBERS ADMITTED DURING THE YEAR, NUMBER OF ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS, NUMBER DROPPED FROM THE PROGRAM, AND NUMBERS TRANSFERRED ARE EXAMINED FOR PHASE I AND PHASE II. FIGURES ON ADMISSIONS FOR 1969 TO 1971 AND LENGTH AND NUMBER OF DISCIPLINARY RETURNS ARE INCLUDED. THE COST PER BOY PER DAY IS INDICATED FOR PHASE I AND PHASE II.
