STATISTICAL COMPARISONS MADE TO SHOW VARIABLES WHICH SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENTIATED TWO GROUPS OF PAROLED DELINQUENTS.
Abstract
FACTORS SUCH AS HOME LIVING SITUATIONS, PREVIOUS INSTITUTIONAL EXPERIENCE, AGE, INTELLIGENCE. SCHOOL GRADE, BEHAVIOR IN THE INSTITUTION, AND TYPE OF PROGRAM WERE CONSIDERED. THE RESULTS ARE PRESENTED IN SEVERAL TABLES. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PERCENTAGE OF VIOLATORS TO NON-VIOLATORS IS HIGH. VIOLATORS WERE FOUND TO HAVE HAD LONGER AND EARLIER PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN INSTITUTIONS THAN THE NON-VIOLATORS OF PAROLE. PAROLE VIOLATORS AS A GROUP HAD HIGHER MEASURED INTELLIGENCE ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE FOUND BETWEEN ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF BOTH GROUPS. VIOLATORS TENDED TO HAVE STAYED LONGER IN THE PROGRAM THAN NON-VIOLATORS, AND OF THOSE WHO VIOLATED PAROLE, 74.9 PERCENT DID SO WITHIN THE FIRST 11 MONTHS AFTER RELEASE.
