THIS MANUAL PROVIDES AN OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANIZATION, GOALS, AND ACTIVITIES OF THE OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH UNIT, WHICH IS CHARGED WITH PROVIDING CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION FOR PLANNING AND POLICY DECISIONS.
Abstract
THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCH UNIT ARE FIRST OUTLINED. THEY INCLUDE PROVISION OF DATA FOR DECISION MAKING PURPOSES, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE DATA, OPERATION OF THE GRANTS MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM, AND PROVISION OF ASSISTANCE TO OTHER AGENCIES COLLECTING CRIMINAL JUSTICE DATA. THE ORGANIZATION AND STAFFING OF THE RESEARCH UNIT IS BRIEFLY OUTLINED, AND ITS RESEARCH PROCEDURES ARE SUMMARIZED. THE CURRENT ACTIVITIES OF THE RESEARCH UNIT ARE DESCRIBED, AND INCLUDE AN OVERALL ANALYSIS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, A STUDY OF THE PROCESSING OF JUVENILE OFFENDERS, A TARGET AREA SELECTION PROJECT, A PLEA NEGOTIATION STUDY, A JAIL STUDY, AND PRODUCTION OF A CRIMINAL JUSTICE DATA BOOK. FINALLY, REPORTS AND PUBLICATIONS OF THE RESEARCH UNIT ARE LISTED.
