GOVERNOR'S CRIME COMMISSION ANNUAL UPDATE REPORT STRESSES JUVENILE JUSTICE, AID TO PROSECUTORS, AND MORE TREATMENT FOR OFFENDERS.
Abstract
THE MINNESOTA COMMISSION ON CRIME PREVENTION AND CONTROL EVALUATES CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMS IN THE STATE AND PROVIDES MONEY AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO VARIOUS AGENCIES AND LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEM. IN JUVENILE JUSTICE, ESPECIALLY, THE COMMISSION REPORTS MAKING SIGNIFICANT STRIDES. ONE COMMISSION-FUNDED PROJECT PROVIDES EMERGENCY SHELTER FOR JUVENILES WHO ARE RUNNING AWAY FROM HOME BUT WHO WANT TO STOP. THE COMMISSION HAS ALSO FOCUSED ON ASSISTING PROSECUTORS, AND THROUGH ITS PROJECTS HAS AIDED THEM IN PREPARATION FOR TRIAL. AT THE SAME TIME, COMMISSION FUNDED PROJECTS HAVE AIDED INDIGENT DEFENDANTS. CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT IN CRIME PREVENTION HAS BEEN A PRIORITY OF THE COMMISSION, AS WELL AS STRONG EMPHASIS ON TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS....BS
