Abstract
The State's 29 task forces covered 81 of Minnesota's 87 counties totaling more than 100,000 square miles and more than 98 percent of the State's population. Narcotic task forces made 2,351 arrests in 1993, an 8 percent increase from 1992. The majority of those arrested were charged with distribution, selling, or possession of marijuana, cocaine, and other drugs. More than 43 percent of the arrestees were charged with the possession of narcotics. Six hundred were arrested for possession of marijuana, 190 for cocaine, 82 for amphetamines or methamphetamine, and 152 for other narcotics. Four-fifths of those arrested were males. Twenty- four percent of the males arrested were ages 21-25, 21 percent were 16-20, 18 percent were 31-35, 15 percent were 26-30, and 22 percent were other ages. Seventy-six percent were white, 13 percent were black, 8 percent were American Indian, and 3 percent were of other races. Task forces seized more than 37 kilograms of cocaine, more than 5 kilograms of crack, nearly 3,000 pounds of marijuana, and 171,000 marijuana plants along with 5,100 doses of LSD, 1.8 kilograms of amphetamines, and 1.8 kilograms of mushrooms. Task forces continue to focus on arrests. Maps and tables
