SEVENTY RECOMMENDATIONS (PLUS COMMENTARIES) FOR IMPROVING THE STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, BASED ON A REVIEW OF 445 OF THE NEARLY 500 STANDARDS OF THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE STANDARDS AND GOALS.
Abstract
RECOMMENDATIONS ARE DIVIDED INTO THE SIX 'ISSUE CATEGORIES' ACCORDING TO WHICH THE TASK FORCE REVIEWED THE NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION STANDARDS: JUVENILE JUSTICE; DETECTION, DETERRENCE AND APPREHENSION; PRETRIAL SERVICES AND PROCEDURES; COURT PROCESSES; COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION; AND INSTITUTIONAL AND COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS. NEARLY 175 OF THE STANDARDS ARE INCORPORATED INTO THE 70 RECOMMENDATIONS. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS A STANDARD-BY-STANDARD COMPARISON OF MINNESOTA STATUTE AND THE NAC POSITIONS AND ALSO PROVIDES A STANDARD-BYSTANDARD BREAKDOWN OF THE ACTION TAKEN BY THE MINNESOTA TASK FORCE.
