DESCRIPTION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT EFFORTS AIMED AT POLICING AND/OR PROTECTING JUVENILES ON THE STREETS OF PARIS, FRANCE.
Abstract
CONSIDERED ARE POLICE ACTIVITIES DIRECTED AT ENFORCING TRAFFIC LAWS AND PREVENTING TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS, PARTICULARLY THOSE HAVING TO DO WITH MOTORSCOOTERS, AND GENERAL PREVENTIVE PATROL EFFORTS IN THE AREAS OF TRUANTS, RUNAWAYS, JUVENILE DOPERS, AND JUVENILE PROSECUTION. YOUTH FOUND ON THE STREETS DURING SCHOOL HOURS ARE IMMEDIATELY DELIVERED TO THE PRINCIPAL OF THEIR SCHOOL AND THEIR PARENTS ARE NOTIFIED. OWNERS OF ESTABLISHMENTS FREQUENTED BY TRUANTS ARE SUBJECT TO FINES. OFFENDERS UNDER 13 YEARS OF AGE ARE USUALLY REMANDED TO THE CUSTODY OF THEIR PARENTS, WHILE THOSE BETWEEN 13 AND 18 WHO MUST BE DETAINED ARE SEPARATED FROM MORE SERIOUS AND/OR OLDER OFFENDERS. RUNAWAYS NOT BEING RETURNED IMMEDIATELY TO THEIR HOMES ARE BROUGHT BEFORE A JUVENILE JUDGE WHO DECIDES THE MOST APPROPRIATE COURSE OF ACTION, WHILE JUVENILE DRUG USERS ARE TAKEN TO HOSPITALS, AND MINORS PICKED UP FOR PROSTITUTION ARE HANDLED BY THE VICE SQUAD WHO PLACES THEM IN A JUVENILE SHELTER. --IN FRENCH...ELW
