This paper reports work on the first phase of a project, being completed under a grant from the National Institute of Corrections, whose purpose is to evaluate the classification system used since 1983 by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Abstract
The first aim is to determine the reliability and validity of the instruments used to make the Initial Classification Analysis (ICA) and, if warranted, to suggest revisions; the second aim, to evaluate the linkage of the initial classification and treatment plan to subsequent changes in the levels of an inmate's needs, described below; the third aim, to identify specific needs for expansion or innovation of institutional resources. After presenting our conceptual frame of reference regarding classification objectives and criteria of relevance, we shall examine the reliability and validity of the ICA. (Publisher abstract)
