This report provides data and information that profile Missouri's crime problems, their characteristics, and the law enforcement actions being taken to address the problems.
Abstract
In 1999, 236,360 Crime Index offenses were reported. It was further estimated that 252,792 Crime Index offenses actually occurred statewide, a 4.3-percent decrease from 1998. Violent offenses composed 10.8 percent of the total 1999 Missouri Crime Index. There were 25,637 Violent Index offenses reported in 1999, and it was estimated that 27,383 Violent Index offenses actually occurred statewide, a 8.8-percent decrease from 1998. In 1999 there were 329 murders reported, 1,291 forcible rapes, 7,025 robberies, and 16,992 aggravated assaults. Property offenses composed 89.2 percent of the total 1999 Missouri Crime Index. There were 210,723 Property Index offenses reported in 1999, and it was estimated that 225,409 Property Index offenses actually occurred statewide, a 3.8-percent decrease from 1998. There were 38,373 burglaries reported in 1999, 148,226 thefts, 22,117 motor vehicle thefts, and 2,007 arsons. Data were provided on total arrests and arrests for each offense type.
