Official traffic accident records were analyzed to determine the nature and extent of traffic crashes involving police vehicles and other emergency service vehicles in Missouri in 1995.
Abstract
The Missouri Statewide Traffic Accident Records System provides information on all traffic crashes on public roadways if they involve a death or personal injury or property damage over $500. The analysis revealed that 1,892 traffic crashes involving 1,945 emergency service vehicles took place during the year. Six persons were killed and 716 were injured. A total of 20.4 percent of the emergency vehicles were on an emergency run at the time of the crash. A total of 81.8 percent of the emergency vehicles were police vehicles, 9 percent were fire vehicles, and 8.8 percent were ambulances. The 396 emergency vehicles making emergency runs when a traffic crash took place included 65 fire emergency vehicles and 52 ambulances. Figures, tables, map, and glossary
