Abstract
There were 1,313 emergency service vehicle traffic crashes in the State in 2005; 1,353 emergency service vehicles were involved in these crashes. A total of 341 of these vehicles (25.2 percent) were on an emergency run at the time of the crash. Police vehicles accounted for the majority of the emergency service vehicles involved in the crashes. Fire vehicles were involved in 11.9 percent of the crashes. Ambulances were involved in a total of 132 (9.8 percent) of the 1,353 emergency vehicle crashes. Of the 341 emergency service vehicles involved in traffic crashes while on emergency runs, 37 (10.9 percent) were ambulances. For all of the vehicle crashes that involved emergency service vehicles, 5 persons were killed, and 396 persons were injured. The seriousness of these traffic crashes is compounded by the delay or prevention of services intended for delivery in the emergency situation. The primary source of data for this report was the Missouri Statewide Traffic Accident Records System. Extensive tabular and graphic data
