Missouri Juvenile Court Annual Report: Calendar Year 1996

NCJ Number

Date Published
1997
Length
35 pages
Annotation
This report presents the summary statistics of Missouri's juvenile court system for calendar year 1996.
Abstract
The numbers represented in this report are not individual children, but separately disposed court referrals. A referral is defined as "any action involving a juvenile which results in a determination, finding, or outcome and a written record maintained in the juvenile's name." A disposed referral is one which has resulted in a "finding" or "outcome," such as Court Adjudication, Informal Adjustment, Transfer to other Court, or Rejection or Referral. In calendar year 1996, 84,131 referrals were disposed of by the 45 juvenile court circuits in Missouri, a 14.5-percent increase over the 5-year period since 1992 and a 5- percent increase over 1995. The report presents a Juvenile Court Overview (including race and gender comparisons and most common major allegations), and data on Law Violation Referrals, Status Offense Referrals, and Abuse, Neglect and Custody Referrals.
