AN EVALUATION, DATED MAY 1976, OF A PROGRAM DESIGNED TO PROVIDE PSYCHOLOGICAL AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND OTHER SERVICES TO MISSOURI ADULT CORRECTIONAL INMATES IN HOPES OF REDUCING RECIDIVISM.
Abstract
THE UNDERLYING PHILOSOPHY OF THE PROGRAM IS THAT MANY INDIVIDUALS RETURN TO PRISON BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO ADJUST TO SOCIETY AND BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE MANIPULATED BY THE ENVIRONMENT. ACCORDING TO THE EVALUATOR, MAJOR WEAKNESSESS IN THE PROGRAM INCLUDE LACK OF FORMAL CLIENT FOLLOW-UP, NO MEANS OF MEASURING RECIDIVIST-REDUCING EFFECTS, DECENTRALIZED RECORD KEEPING AND THE FAILURE OF THE STATE IN PAYING ITS SHARE OF THE PROGRAM COSTS. APPENDIXES INCLUDE PROGRAM MATERIALS.... TWH
