Abstract
The primary source of information for this report is the Statewide Traffic Accident Records System. In 1998, Missouri had a total of 194,984 traffic crashes. The economic loss associated with these traffic crashes was estimated to be $3,240,900,000. In these traffic crashes 5 percent (n=1,017) involved one or more persons being killed in the incident. In addition, 26.3 percent (n=51,204) involved no persons being killed but one or more persons being injured in the incident. In 1998, a total of 1,169 persons died in traffic crashes. A total of 79,746 persons were injured in traffic crashes in 1998. Data is provided identifying causal factors of Missouri's traffic crash experience which directly impact the frequency of occurrence or personal death and injury severity levels.
