Abstract
MISUSE OF ABSENCE WAS DEFINED, FOR PURPOSES OF THIS STUDY, AS EITHER THE COMMISSION OF A CRIME WHILE ABSENT, FAILURE TO RETURN OR THE COMMISSION OF A CRIME WHILE OVERDUE BACK FROM ABSENCE. THERE WERE 7,302 AUTHORIZED ABSENCES AND 95 CASES (OR 1.3 PERCENT) OF MISUSE DURING THE PERIOD. A TOTAL OF 85 INMATES OUT OF THE 1,292 (OR 6.6 PERCENT) WERE GUILTY OF MISUSE OF ABSENCE DURING THE PERIOD. TABLES GIVE THE STATISTICS INCLUDED IN THE STUDY. FEATURED IN THE TABLES ARE STATISTICS ON HOW MANY NIGHTS THE VARIOUS INMATES WERE ABSENT UNATTENDED. STATISTICS ARE ALSO GIVEN ON MISUSE OF ABSENCE BROKEN DOWN BY AGE GROUPS AND ON THE TYPES OF OFFENSE COMMITTED WHILE ABSENT FROM PRISON. --IN DANISH
