ORGANIZATION AND ACTIVITIES OF THE INDIANA LAWYERS COMMISSION, A CITIZEN-ORIENTED FORUM FOR STUDYING THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE FIELD WITH EMPHASIS ON CORRECTIONS, MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHANGE, AND DISSEMINATE DATA.
Abstract
RECOMMENDATIONS MADE BY THE COMMISSION DURING ITS FIRST YEAR DEALT ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY WITH THE INDIANA CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM. EXAMPLES OF COMMISSION PROPOSALS INCLUDE UPGRADED MEDICAL SERVICES IN THE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND IN-SERVICE TRAINING TO ENHANCE THE WORK PROFICIENCY OF CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AND OTHERS. THE COMMISSION IS SEPARATE FROM, BUT RESPONSIBLE TO THE STATE BAR ASSOCIATION. ITS 30-MEMBER BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS ELECTED BY THE BAR'S BOARD OF MANAGERS.
