A GENERALIZED MODEL FOR PLANNING, IMPLEMENTING, AND EVALUATING ADULT CAREER EDUCATION IN CORRECTIONAL SETTINGS IS PRESENTED.
Abstract
THIS MODEL WAS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A GUIDE FOR THE SYSTEMATIC PLANNING, IMPLEMENTATION, AND EVALUATION OF PROGRAMS PROVIDING FOR CAREER EDUCATION WITHIN ADULT CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS. THE MODEL UTILIZES A SYSTEMS APPROACH AND CONSISTS OF SEVEN CHAPTERS AND A FLOWCHART PRESENTING SEVEN MAJOR FUNCTIONS WHICH MUST BE CARRIED OUT. THESE ARE: (1) ESTABLISHING A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK, (2) SETTING UP AN INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEM AND ANALYZING DATA TO DESCRIBE THE ACTUAL CORRECTIONS SETTING, (3) ASSESSING NEEDS FOR ADULT CAREER EDUCATION IN SUCH A SETTING, (4) ESTABLISHING MANAGEMENT SUBGOALS AND OBJECTIVES TO IMPLEMENT MAJOR GOALS, (5) FORMULATING A MANAGEMENT PLAN TO OPTIMIZE DELIVERY OF EDUCATION, (6) IMPLEMENTING THE PROGRAMS, AND (7) EVALUATING THE DELIVERY SYSTEM AND THE PROGRAMS. THE FLOWCHART IS A GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION OF THE FUNCTIONS. A NUMERICAL CODING SYSTEM RELATES THE FLOWCHART TO THE NARRATIVE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE MODEL'S FUNCTIONS. DIRECTIONS FOR USING THE MODEL ARE PROVIDED. APPENDED MATERIAL INCLUDES A GLOSSARY, A BIBLIOGRAPHY, A LIST OF CAREER EDUCATION-RELATED PERIODICALS, INFORMATION ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MODEL, AND A SUBJECT INDEX. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED-KBL)
