EVALUATION OF MODEL CLASSIFICATION PROJECT AT THE PHILADELPHIA JAILS OFFERS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF OPERATION.
Abstract
PROBLEMS IN THE SYSTEM WERE APPARENT IN THE RECRUITING AND HOLDING OF ADEQUATE STAFF IN THE SOCIAL SERVICE UNITS, AS WELL AS THE USE OF PROFESSIONAL STAFF TIME. IN AN ATTEMPT TO WORK OUT SOME OF THE HOSTILITY AMONG VARIOUS PERSONNEL GROUPS AT THE PRISON, A SURVEY WAS UNDERTAKEN TO OBTAIN THEIR VALUES TO HELP GUIDE FUTURE OPERATIONS. THE SURVEY INDICATED THAT THE FUNCTIONS WHICH ARE GENERALLY SEEN AS IMPORTANT FOR THE PRISONS ARE NOT SOCIAL WORKER FUNCTIONS. THE EVALUATION ALSO STATED THAT THE PERCEIVED HOSTILITY INCREASES WITH THE REALIZATION THAT GOALS CAN NOT BE ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT CHANGES IN THE PRISON SYSTEM....BS
