The military training base at Fort Knox, Ky. has established a rehabilitation program for incest perpetrators and their families in an effort to prevent continued victimization.
Abstract
The Child Sexual Offender Rehabilitation Program operates on dual tracks, based on the premise that certain child sexual offenders can be successfully treated. The criminal justice process and the treatment program are integrated for a more effective approach to treatment. As long as no repetition of abuse occurs and treatment is ongoing, offenders may be allowed to enter the rehabilitation program using the option of deferred prosecution, court martial with a pretrial agreement to suspend all or part of the sentence, or a grant of clemency to suspend all or part of the sentence. The treatment program includes the offender and family members, with the therapeutic focus on acceptance of individual responsibility within a family system base. The program is small and new, yet the families involved seem to have made remarkable progress, and the children are beginning to trust again. 8 references.
