This report presents evaluation results of 1981 police patrol vehicles; the evaluation was conducted by the Michigan State Police (MSP) as part of its annual testing program.
Abstract
Both full- and mid-size cars were evaluated, with five of each tested in the 8-cylinder-engine category. Two mid-size 6-cylinder automobiles were also evaluated. Most test results are presented in summary form. Results cover vehicle dynamics testing, acceleration and top speed testing, brake testing, ergonomics and communications, fuel economy, and MSP patrol vehicle weighting and scoring for model year 1981. In addition, bid specifications and manufacturer specifications are included. Appendixes present detailed Michigan State vehicle specifications and manufacturer specifications, vehicle acceleration data, and bid adjustment procedures. A total of 11 tables and 3 figures are provided.
