This report provides information on hate crimes in Montana during 2011.
Abstract
This report, compiled by the Montana Board of Crime Control, provides information on hate crimes in the State that occurred during 2011. Highlights of the report's findings include the following: of the total number of offenses reported to Montana law enforcement agencies, only 0.04 percent were bias motivated offenses (32 out of 74,147); these offenses were motivated by racial, disability, bias; religion, ethnicity/national origin, or sexual orientation bias; 22 percent of the offenses involved aggravated assault, while 31 percent involved vandalism; 55 percent of the offenses were for racial bias, 16 percent were for ethnicity/national origin bias, and 15 percent were for religious bias; almost twice as many males as females were victims of bias motivated offenses; and the majority of the victims were aged 10-17 years old.
