A COMPARISON BETWEEN URBAN AND RURAL CRIME RATES FOR THE SEVEN INDEX CRIMES IN MONTANA IN 1974.
Abstract
DESPITE THE FACT THAT 70 PERCENT OF THE INDEX CRIMES OCCURRED IN URBAN AREAS, MORE THAN HALF THE MURDERS, RAPES AND AGGRAVATED ASSAULT OFFENSES TOOK PLACE IN RURAL AREAS. THE AUTHOR ATTRIBUTES THIS TO THE FACT THAT VIOLENT CRIMES ARE COMMONLY COMMITTED BY PERSONS PREVIOUSLY KNOWN TO THEIR VICTIMS, AND IT IS MORE LIKELY THAT THIS WOULD OCCUR IN RURAL AREAS. BAR GRAPHS ILLUSTRATE INDEX CRIME RATES.
