Abstract
The police handled 7 million traffic offenses in 1993, an 11-percent decrease from 1992. The number of offenses has declined steadily each year since the 1990 peak of 8.7 million. The 2.4 million court proceedings for traffic violations in 1993 was about the same as in 1992. The largest decline between 1992 and 1993 occurred in obstruction, waiting, and parking offenses. Seventy-two thousand offenses were detected by the use of automatic cameras. Driving license disqualifications totaled 150,000 an increase of 1 percent over 1992. Tables and notes
