Inmate statistics and services for fiscal year 1988-1989 are detailed in this summary annual report of the Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility in Annandale, N.J.
Abstract
The number of admissions during the year totaled 1,770, and the highest inmate count in the history of the facility reached 1,406 in June 1989. The average inmate population was 1,332, as compared to 1,272 the previous year; the average age on admission was 24.6 years, and the average length of stay was 10.7 months. Based on 1,575 preparole interviews and 1,306 inmate interviews, 1,012 inmates were paroled. During the year, 1,456 inmates were assigned to highway detail. The facility's work release program provided opportunities for 639 inmates, and 352 inmates received furloughs (171 escorted and 181 unescorted). Inmate morale was good throughout the year, and major incidents were at a minimum. Inmate services included Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, a family day picnic, academic and vocational training, a Hispanic community group, medical and dental services, psychological and psychiatric services, recreation, religious services, social services, and the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Addicted Prisoners (TRAP) program. Inmates also participated in various community service projects, such as Operation Clean Shore and recycling.
