Abstract
The entries are not limited to the information contained in the books cited in a particular killer's bibliography. In every applicable case, the author has updated the entries to reflect the subject's current legal status or to provide some interesting current biographical information. The author has researched each case, often contacting penal institutions and individuals directly involved with the case. The volume includes those murderers or accused murderers throughout the world whose cases have proven to be of historical significance, have set some legal precedent, have not been previously anthologized, or have shocked and amazed people with their audacity or brutality. The cases selected are limited to those that occurred prior to the end of 1992; however, all bibliographies are current through 1995. Each entry, when applicable, contains the subject's aliases, birth and death dates, occupation, location(s) where the murder(s) occurred, number of victims, weapon(s) used, and the time period when the killing(s) occurred. Films, theater pieces, television, video, and audio programs based on or inspired by the case are cited under the heading, "Media." Quotes are often included, followed by a detailed entry and a bibliography of English language works. General, author, and title indexes and appended classification of the cases
