This workbook is designed to help 3-9 yr old children and caregivers process psychological trauma; it integrates state of the art theory in the treatment of psychological trauma with art and design.
Abstract
This fully illustrated workbook is fun for children, easy to teach by caregivers, yet complex enough to integrate state-of-the-art treatment tools for psychological trauma. It uses assignments and images that bring up and help answer questions like: Who can I trust?, What makes me strong?, What kind of sexual behaviors are not OK?, and How can I have fun? It teaches children how to express themselves through art, how to deal with bullies, and what to do in dangerous situations where adults hurt each other. The workbook provides the opportunity for caregivers to express their values and expectations of their child in a non-threatening and organized way. Therapists may structure the initial stages of therapy regarding Intimate Partner Violence, Sexual Abuse, and other traumatic experiences around the concepts discussed in this workbook to help children correct cognitive distortions that may occur due to traumatic experiences while providing tools to build strong relationships and social support for healing. Funda Yilmaz is a children's counselor, a researcher, and an artist. She has worked with child survivors of family violence and sexual assault, children with aggressive sexual behaviors, children in foster care, and children of alcoholics.
