This publication of the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders provides information and data on a wide range of topics pertinent to England's prison system, crime prevention, sentencing, and judicial reform.
Abstract
The publication considers privatization in prisons and presents the findings of the 1991 National Prison Survey of prisoner characteristics, prison life, families and resettlement, and prisoner attitudes. Chief inspector reports of individual prisons are included, along with information on prisoners awaiting trial, the 1991 Criminal Justice Act, prison transfers, and services for mentally disordered offenders. The publication also examines drug offenders and probation, crime prevention initiatives, race and sentencing in crown courts, and judicial appointments. Statistical data are provided on notifiable offenses in England and Wales between July 1991 and June 1992, drug offenders, cautions, court proceedings, sentencing, probation, and offenses against prison discipline and punishments. In addition, the publication contains information on how to deal with persistent young offenders, the judiciary in the 1990's, and criminal injuries
