Abstract
The book includes some very basic material in the area of case initiation and development and then discusses six general areas of techniques and operations: informants, search warrants, raid planning and execution, special street operations and investigative situations, undercover operations, and enhanced investigations. The chapter on case initiation covers information sources and prioritizing, case development, cooperation with other agencies, and community responsiveness. The chapter on informants describes how to develop an informant, informant types, and legal and ethical considerations in the use of informants. The chapter on search warrants deals with legal aspects, search warrant preparation, confidentiality, and logistical considerations. The chapter on raid planning and execution encompasses initial planning, preraid intelligence gathering, documentary elements of planning, the formulation and implementation of operational plans, and special considerations in drug laboratory raids. The chapter on special operations and investigative situations focuses on crack cocaine, while the chapter on enhanced investigations looks at the use of pen registers and Title III investigations. The book concludes with a brief discussion of the importance of attitude and professional responsibility. Footnotes and figures
