Abstract
OBJECTIVES OF THIS PROGRAM WERE TO: PROVIDE EVERY OFFICER IN THE METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT WITH A LEVEL OF TRAINING APPROPRIATE TO HIS POSITION, TO EQUIP THE ACADEMY WITH NEEDED TRAINING AIDS, AND TO INCREASE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBERS OF AREA LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. EACH SECTION OF THE EVALUATION INCLUDES A BRIEF DESCRIPTION AND EVALUATION, AND A SERIES OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT. SPECIFIC AREAS OF EVALUATION INCLUDED THE FACILITY CONDITIONS, CLASSROOM CONDITIONS, LIBRARY RESOURCES, MODES OF INSTRUCTION, SIZE OF CLASSES, LESSON PLANS, CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT, MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF INSTRUCTORS, INSTRUCTOR SELECTION, AND THE FIELD TRAINING PROGRAM. A SURVEY OF STUDENTS SHOWED HIGH SATISFACTION WITH THE PROGRAM. SPECIALIZED AND SUPERVISORY TRAINING WAS FOUND TO BE LACKING. THE EVALUATION TEAM CONCLUDED THAT THIS POLICE TRAINING ACADEMY IS A HIGHLY PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION, AND THAT GRANT FUNDS AWARDED TO THE ACADEMY BY THIS AGENCY HAVE BEEN EFFECTIVELY UTILIZED TO IMPLEMENT TRAINING PROGRAMS AND TO EQUIP THE NEW TRAINING FACILITY.
