This report explains the status and results of a project to determine the needs of crime laboratory professionals for technical information on the collection and analysis of debris from fires and explosions and to develop an Internet web site and a multimedia distance learning resource to provide technical assistance to forensic analysts.
Abstract
The project identified the specific problems that the technical assistance program could correct, developed the National Center for Forensic Science web page, and produced an interactive CD-ROM for distance learning. In addition, a 13-member advisory board for the National Center for Forensic Science was established. Finally, the National Needs Symposium took place in August 1997 and brought together experienced forensic and law enforcement personnel to share their expertise concerning problems associated with the collection and analysis of fire and explosion debris, to define the current status of this science, and to determine research needs.
