THIS BOOKLET DESCRIBES THE DEVELOPMENT, MAJOR PROJECTS, PENDING PROJECTS, CENTER STAFF, AND SOURCES OF SUPPORT OF THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR JUVENILE JUSTICE.
Abstract
THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR JUVENILE JUSTICE, LOCATED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH SCHOOL OF LAW, WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1973 THROUGH THE EFFORTS OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF JUVENILE COURT JUDGES. IT WAS INTENDED AS A RESEARCH AND PROBLEM-SOLVING CENTER IN THE AREA OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AND THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. THE FOLLOWING MAJOR CENTER PROJECTS ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED: DESIGN OF A NATIONAL DATA SYSTEM ON JUVENILE COURT CLIENTS AND TRANSACTIONS; CONSTRUCTION OF A COMPUTER SIMULATION MODEL OF THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM; THE PITTSBURGH PILOT CHILD ABUSE SEMINAR; A STATUTORY ANALYSIS OF JUVENILE CODES; AND A NATIONAL STUDY OF EXTRA-JUDICIAL PLACEMENT OF CHILDREN. ALSO DESCRIBED ARE THE MAJOR PROJECTS CONCERNING ANALYSIS OF THE NATO STATUS OF FORCES AGREEMENT'S IMPACT ON MILITARY BASE TREATMENT OF JUVENILES, THE EFFECT OF LIBERALIZING PRETRIAL DISCOVERY, AN EVALUATION OF CURRICULA ON JUVENILE LAW, PREPARATION OF A JUVENILE JUSTICE TOPICAL INDEX, AND THE FORMATION OF A NATIONAL CONSORTIUM ON JUVENILE JUSTICE.
