The 1995 annual report of the National Center for Juvenile Justice (NCJJ) indicates the mission is to improve the quality of justice for children and families.
Abstract
The NCJJ mission is pursued by conducting research and providing factual information that can be used to increase the effectiveness of juvenile and family justice systems. The NCJJ report notes that public trust in juvenile and family courts has eroded over the past 30 years and that more juveniles have been moved into criminal courts. As the only private research organization in the United States whose resources are concentrated solely on juvenile and family justice, the NCJJ conducts applied, legal, and systems research. The NCJJ also provides technical assistance to State and local agencies, assists in program development, improves court handling of child abuse and neglect cases, analyzes State Juvenile Codes, develops legal resources, and compiles and analyzes statistics. In addition, the NCJJ is involved in documenting juveniles transferred to adult courts and in measuring case processing delays. Selected publications of the NCJJ are listed, and a financial statement is included that notes sources of support. Photographs and illustrations
