THE INITIAL ISSUE OF A CONTINUING SURVEY OF JUDICIAL SALARIES IN STATE COURT SYSTEMS WHICH INCLUDES SUMMARIES OF PENDING LEGISLATION THAT AFFECTS JUDICIAL SALARIES.
Abstract
THE FIRST TABLE SUMMARIZES SALARIES OF CHIEF JUDGES AND ASSOCIATE JUDGES OF A STATES HIGHEST COURT, OF STATE COURT ADMINISTRATORS, OF INTERMEDIATE APPELLATE COURT JUDGES AND OF GENERAL TRIAL COURT JUDGES. THE SECOND TABLE LISTS JUDICIAL SALARIES FOR COURTS OF SPECIAL AND LIMITED JURISDICTION. THESE COURTS INCLUDE FAMILY COURTS (BOTH DOMESTIC AND JUVENILE), PROBATE AND SURROGATE COURTS, JUSTICE COURTS AND JUSTICES OF THE PEACE, COUNTY COURTS, CIRCUIT OR DISTRICT COURTS, MUNICIPAL COURTS AND POLICE COURTS, AND COMMON PLEA COURTS. THE FIRST APPENDIX LISTS PENDING LEGISLATION WHICH COULD AFFECT JUDICIAL SALARIES ON A STATE-BY-STATE BASIS. APPENDIX TWO INDICATES THOSE STATES WHICH PROVIDE FOR 'FLOATING' JUDICIAL SALARIES ON THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX OR OTHER COST OF LIVING ADJUSTERS. APPENDIX THREE INCLUDES INFORMATION ON THE IMPACT OF THE ECONOMIC STABILIZATION ACT FEDERAL WAGE-PRICE GUIDELINES ON STATE JUDICIAL SALARY INCREASES. FOR THE SECOND REPORT REFER TO NCJ-15852.
