Annotation

This address focuses on joint investigations of organized crime by Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies and the initiation of the Federal Strike Force.

Abstract

The organized crime network is so interwoven by its very nature that it does not recognize traditional State boundaries. Numerous organized crime-related investigations have revealed evidence of a series of criminal acts being committed in violation of Federal law as well as in violation of several State laws. If organized crime members are to be effectively investigated and prosecuted, law enforcement agencies must work together in a cooperative, productive relationship. The Federal Strike Force Program was initiated as a result of the scope, magnitude, and threat posed by organized crime. The strike force concept has presented an excellent vehicle to overcome jurisdictional, financial, and investigative restrictions. Cases which illustrate the productive outcome of strike force investigations are discussed. The speaker is the attorney in charge of the New York Joint Strike Force.
