Abstract
THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PRETRIAL SERVICES AGENCIES (NAPSA), IN CONJUNCTION WITH ITS SUBGRANTEE, THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR STATE COURTS, HAS DEVELOPED MODEL CURRICULUM TRAINING MATERIALS IN AREAS OF CRITICAL IMPORTANCE FOR THE EFFECTIVE OPERATION OF PRETRIAL SERVICES AGENCIES. THIS REPORT BRIEFLY DESCRIBES THESE TRAINING MATERIALS AND OUTLINES THE SPECIFIC CONTENTS OF TWO PROTOTYPE PACKAGES DEVELOPED IN COMMUNICATION THEORY AND MANAGEMENT THEORY. THE CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS CONTAIN INFORMATION ON THE CONFERENCE OPERATIONS, THE TEXTS OF THE KEYNOTE ADDRESS AND MAJOR SPEECHES, SUMMARIES OF THE WORKSHOP SESSIONS, THE RESULTS OF THE CONFERENCE EVALUATION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE CONFERENCES. AMONG THE TOPICS EXAMINED IN THE CONFERENCE SPEECHES AND WORKSHOPS WERE THE FUTURE OF IMPRISONMENT; RESEARCH AND EVALUATION ON PRETRIAL RELEASE, DIVERSION, AND JUVENILE JUSTICE; THE RIGHTS OF PARTICIPANTS IN PRETRIAL OR DIVERSION PROGRAMS; AND THE CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THESE PROGRAMS. WORKSHOP SESSIONS WERE ALSO CONDUCTED ON PROGRAM EVALUATION, OPERATIONAL ISSUES, WOMEN IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND CITIZEN PARTICIPATION.
