Abstract

This report from the Executive Office of the President of the United States presents the 2014 National Drug Control Strategy. The strategy is an evidence-based plan aimed at reforming drug policy in a way that is more efficient, effective, and equitable. The plan builds on the successes of the 2013 Strategy by expanding them into new and emerging issues that have developed in communities across the country. The report contains seven chapters that deal with the following issues: 1) Strengthen efforts to prevent drug use in communities; 2) Seek early intervention opportunities in health care; 3) Integrate treatment for substance use disorders into health care and expand support for recovery; 4) Break the cycle of drug use, crime, delinquency, and incarceration; 5) Disrupt domestic drug trafficking and production; 6) Strengthen international partnerships and reduce the availability of foreign-produced drugs in the United States; and 7) Improve information systems for analysis, assessment, and local management. The report also discusses two areas that are the focus of drug control strategy policy: reducing drugged driving and preventing and addressing prescription drug abuse. Figures and endnotes
