Abstract
"When Gangs Come to School" outlines four "action steps" for countering gang activity in schools. First, conduct a comprehensive assessment of gang activity on school grounds. Second, develop a continuum of prevention and intervention activities based on students' needs. Third, develop appropriate policies to control gang behavior on school grounds and at school events. Fourth, Train school personnel to identify and respond to gang issues. "Civil Gang Injunctions - Part 2" explains the functions of a civil gang injunction (CGI) and how it can be effective in countering gang behavior in a defined safety zone. A CGI is a preliminary or permanent court order issued in a civil case against a criminal street gang and its members, prohibiting certain behaviors within a defined area. A CGI may prohibit gang members from associating together in public and enforce trespass and curfew laws. "2011 National Youth Gang Survey Analysis" explains the sources of estimates of the number of gang members and measures used to ensure the estimates are as accurate as possible, based on the methodology of the National Youth Gang Survey (NYGS) and subsequent analysis. Estimates are presented from the NYGS through the end of 2011. "OJJDP Strategic Planning Tool" explains how this tool can assist communities in assessing delinquency and gang problems and using the assessment to plan anti-gang strategies.
