Based on the National Judicial Reporting Program, a biennial statistical program, this report describes the number and characteristics of felons convicted at the State level in 1990.
Abstract
The first section describes the number of felony offenders in State courts and the sentences they received. The second section presents profiles of felons convicted in State courts, which consist of their sex, race, and age. The third section describes the number of felons sentenced to probation in State courts, the crimes for which they were sentenced to probation, and the demographic characteristics of probationers. The final section of the report describes the number of felons convicted by trial and by guilty plea in State courts, compares sentences for offenders convicted by the two methods, and tabulates the average time required to process felony cases. 38 tables
