This codebook presents the variables and coding information for the data set which gives the names, addresses, services, and employment of almost 1,800 State and local criminal justice agencies that do not perform direct justice functions.
Abstract
The introduction describes the study and discusses data collection procedures, file structure, data standards, and codebook information. Most of the agencies included in the directory perform administrative and support functions for agencies in specific sectors. About 700 of the agencies serve more than one sector. Also included are such agencies as victim compensation boards, multifunctional criminal justice training academies, and adult crime prevention commissions. The data are available in two formats: a card-image file and an OSIRIS data set. An appendix, which explains the classification of governmental units, and a glossary are included.
