This codebook presents the variables and coding information for the data set which gives the names, addresses, system types, client caseloads, employment, and funding sources for almost 3,600 State and local probation and parole agencies.
Abstract
The introduction describes the study and discusses data collection procedures, file structure, data standards, and codebook information. The file includes both independent agencies and those administered by other criminal justice agencies. Branch offices under the administration of a probation and parole agency are counted as separate agencies. However, about 300 regional or district offices are excluded. The data are available in two formats: a card-image file and an OSIRIS data set. An appendix, which explains the classification of governmental units, and a glossary are included.
