This codebook presents the variables and coding information for the data set which gives the names, addresses, institution types, employment, inmate numbers and sex, and funding sources for the approximately 800 facilities listed in the State Adult Correctional Facilities Subfile of the National Justice Agency list.
Abstract
The introduction describes the study and discusses data collection procedures, file structure, data standards, and codebook information. The file includes prisons; classification, diagnostic, reception, and medical facilities; hospitals exclusively for State prisoners; drug or alcohol treatment facilities exclusively for State prisoners; prison farms, road camps, and forestry camps; and special function facilities. The data are available in two formats: a card-image file and an OSIRIS file. An appendix, which explains the classification of governmental units, and a glossary are included.
