A new training program sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the American Probation and Parole Association, and the National Association of Probation Executives will help the jurisdictions that are interested in incorporating state-of-the-art knowledge into their efforts to combat drug abuse among offenders.
Abstract
The new training program will be implemented in six regions beginning in January 1989. In addition, a pilot study will be conducted in Philadelphia in November 1988. The training program uses a team approach and will target agency managers and staff trainers. The National Narcotics Intervention Training Program uses a curriculum developed on the basis of responses to a national survey of probation and parole officials. Although the program focuses mainly on drug intervention, it emphasizes the integration of drug issues with daily operations of general supervision practices. The program has many components acquiring information, understanding the relationship between drugs and crime, developing drug programs within existing agency frameworks, developing intervention and treatment strategies, and training. The training will last 4.5 days and cost $150. A recent pre-marketing campaign indicates that the training is in high demand. Tables and a registration form.
