FLYERS, PAMPHLETS AND NEWSLETTERS DESCRIBING A CITIZEN CRIME PREVENTION-EDUCATION PROGRAM.
Abstract
RESIDENTIAL AND BUSINESS PROPERTY CRIMES CONTINUE TO BE A MAJOR LAW ENFORCEMENT CONCERN ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THE GROWING NUMBER OF BURGLARIES, PARTICULARLY DAYTIME CRIMES, DEMANDS THE ATTENTION OF EVERY CITIZEN TO AID LAW ENFORCEMENT IN REDUCING THESE CRIMES. THE NATIONAL NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM IS A SELF-HELP COMMUNITY CRIME PREVENTION EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM INITIATED BY THE NATIONAL SHERIFFS' ASSOCIATION UNDER A LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION GRANT. SHERIFFS AND OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES PROVIDE THE LEADERSHIP IN STIMULATING A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES AND CITIZEN PARTICIPATION EFFORTS DESIGNED TO REDUCE RESIDENTIAL AND BUSINESS PROPERTY CRIMES. THIS INFORMATION PACKET PROVIDES AN INTRODUCTION TO THE NATIONAL NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM AND ACTIVITIES. COPIES OF THE PROGRAM NEWSLETTER ILLUSTRATE BOTH THE RANGE OF PROJECTS BEING CONDUCTED ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND PROPOSED TECHNIQUES FOR INITIAL AND CONTINUING IMPLEMENTATION. A FLYER GIVING 'SAMPLE SUGGESTIONS' ON STARTING THE PROGRAM, COLLECTING INFORMATION ABOUT BURGLARY AND LARCENY, AND ASSEMBLING AND WORKING WITH A CITIZEN COORDINATING COUNCIL IS ALSO INCLUDED. REPRESENTATIVE INFORMATION PAMPHLETS ON 'HOW TO PROTECT YOUR HOME', HOW TO PROTECT YOUR BUSINESS' AND 'HOW TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY AWAY FROM HOME AT WORK OR PLAY' ILLUSTRATE SOME OF THE MATERIAL USED IN THE PROGRAM. SAMPLES OF THE DISTINCTIVE YELLOW AND BLACK BUMPER AND WINDOW STICKERS DISTRIBUTED DURING A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM ARE ALSO PROVIDED. (SNI ABSTRACT)
