Abstract
THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA HAD A 287.7 PRISONER RATIO PER 100,000 INHABITANTS, THE HIGHEST RATE OF ANY STATE. COURT COMMITMENTS AND THE NUMBER OF EX-OFFENDERS VIOLATING THEIR PAROLE OR CONDITIONAL RELEASE INCREASED 9.1 PERCENT OVER 1960. THE NUMBER OF FEMALES IN STATE INSTITUTIONS INCREASED 2.4 PERCENT OVER THE NUMBER CONFINED THE PREVIOUS YEAR.
