ADVANCED DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS AND DESIGN CONCEPTS FOR MUNICIPAL POLICE COMMUNICATIONS-COMMAND-CONTROL SYSTEMS ARE EXPLORED.
Abstract
FIVE OUTSTANDING POLICE NEEDS BEARING ON INCREASED CRIME-FIGHTING PRODUCTIVITY AND 12 PROMISING NEW APPLICATIONS OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY ARE DISCUSSED, INCLUDING A PLAN FOR NEAR-TERM TEST AND EVALUATION OF FOUR OF THE APPLICATIONS. ELEVEN MAJOR ISSUES THAT NOW APPEAR TO IMPEDE PROGRESS IN APPLYING TECHNOLOGY TO POLICE PROBLEMS ARE IDENTIFIED. A FEDERALLY SPONSORED NATIONAL PROGRAM IS RECOMMENDED AND DESCRIBED TO OVERCOME THE EFFECTS OF THESE ISSUES AND TO PROVIDE A FOCAL POINT FOR DEVELOPMENT AND REPLICATION OF NEW TECHNOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS AND IMPROVED COMMUNICATIONS-COMMAND-CONTROL SYSTEMS.
