This report presents the activities and accomplishments of the National Sheriffs’ Association for the year 2006.
Abstract
Within the Executive Office of the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA), the total revenue generated for 2006 was more than $7 million with 56.68 percent from research and development grants; other areas included: annual conference, membership, publications, career development, jail training, and crime prevention. Within the Operations and Support Division the training division conducted 8 successful workshops at the 2006 NSA Winter Conference and 59 seminars/workshops. In addition, the court security project was completed in Berkley County, WV. In 2006, the information technology section contracted with a Web developer to design a new Web site for the NSA. Within the Communications, Events, and Membership Division, NSA membership rounded out the year with 20,210 members with 75 percent of the Nation’s sheriffs being members of the association. The NSA 2006 Annual Conference and Exhibition was held in Orlando, FL. Falling within the Research, Development and Grants Division of NSA, several research and development grants are being initiated and managed in the areas of victim services, domestic violence programs, Triad programs (partnership of law enforcement, senior volunteers, and their service organizations, and criminal justice practitioners working collaboratively to reduce crime against the elderly), USAonWatch (National Neighborhood Watch Program), Homeland Security initiatives, and traffic safety programs.
