This report from the Office of National Drug Control Policy presents the counternarcotics strategy for the Southwest border region.
Abstract
This 2013 report from the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) presents the Federal Government's Counternarcotics Strategy for the Southwest border region. The strategy has been updated from the 2011 report and focuses on substantially reducing "the flow of illicit drugs, drug proceeds, and associated instruments of violence across the Southwest border." The strategy contains eight objectives that include enhancing criminal intelligence and information sharing capabilities and processes associated with the Southwest border region; interdicting drugs, drug proceeds, and associated instruments of violence at and between ports of entry along the Southwest border; interdicting drugs, drug proceeds, and associated illicit activities in the air and maritime domains along the Southwest border region; disrupting and dismantling drug trafficking organizations operating along the Southwest border by increasing investigations and prosecutions; stemming the flow of illegal weapons and illicit proceeds across the Southwest border into Mexico; developing strong and resilient communities along the border; and enhancing U.S.-Mexico cooperation on joint counterdrug efforts. Each of the eight objectives is covered in detail in this report. Implementation of the strategy will be overseen by ONDCP in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice.
