This document briefly describes a 1972 self-report survey of the frequency and seriousness of delinquent activity among a representative sample of American boys and girls and provides a code book for the data file.
Abstract
The survey collected 1,395 interviews from respondents between 11 and 18 years old. Information was obtained about the youths' family characteristics, including job history, family size, and parents' education. Data on youth characteristics cover attitudes toward school, school grades, peer group activities, and job aspirations. Respondents were asked to indicate which of 17 offenses they had committed in the previous 3 years and then to describe the circumstances of each offense reported. Documentation for the survey's variables is provided, along with the code book.
