This mock bail hearing demonstrates the difficulties judges face in deciding whether or not to release defendants on bail or on their own recognizance given the limited amount of facts at their disposal.
Abstract
The intricacies of a bail hearing are illustrated. Numerous allegations about the 'defendants' but little hard data are presented. The 'judge' must sift through all the information offered and decide if the defendants will reappear in court for trial, if they are any danger to the public, and if their community ties are strong. The audience is given the opportunity to make the judge's decision about the defendants by filling out a questionnaire.
